Q & A with Geoff Dixon

Geoff Dixon #50 makes his Pickup Truck Racing debut this weekend at Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch this weekend will see yet another driver from the shorts circuits venturing into Pickup Truck Racing. The JFF Motorsport team have prepared the Stuart Annible owned and operated hire truck for the debut of Geoff Dixon who will be racing under number 50.

Stuart and his team are looking forward to welcoming Geoff and his team to Brands Hatch. Prior to the event, we caught up with Geoff and asked him some questions;

Question: Firstly, a huge welcome to Pickup Truck Racing. Not long until you venture onto the circuits and into the world of Pickup Truck Racing. How are you feeling ahead of your debut this weekend?

Geoff: I have never raced on a circuit before and about two months ago I found some in car footage on You Tube at Brands Hatch that I have now watched about '20 times', ......my lap times are now down to 53 seconds, so should be able to give Nick and Steve some rubbing! Or was it 63 seconds. (age is against me!) I think I've now been buzzing for about two weeks so by Sunday my blood pressure will be through the roof and the adrenalin will probably reach an all time high!

Question: 'Deep breaths Geoff!'

Your past racing experience is on the short circuits. What formulas have you raced, for how long and at what venues?

Geoff: I started off in Lighting Rods in 2004, racing mainly at Grimley Raceway. I moved into Super Rods in 2005, at tracks such as Hednesford, Northampton and Arena Essex and I took the British long track title at Mallory Park back in 2008. English champion at Skegness 2006.

Question: Your initial entry into the trucks was through the 'Taster Day' back in November. You were obviously taken by the truck racing or else you wouldn't be getting ready for this weekend. What appealed to you about this series?

Geoff: I was made very welcome at the Taster Day and was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and how well organised the event was. I have been following the series in 2011 and I have liked the way it is organised and run. If I get the same buzz from Pickup Truck Racing as I did from racing Super-rods I will be well happy.

Question: You have committed to this weekends event at Brands Hatch and also the event at Donington at the end of June which is great to see. If these two meetings go well and you enjoy what you have experienced, what next?

Geoff:  Well, it may be that I'll be on the lookout for a truck to buy, just don't tell the wife yet!!!!!

Question: Your secret is safe with us (as long as Sue doesn't visit this website!)

As with any driver and team, there are always people to thank behind the scenes. Who has helped to be able to get you on track this year?

Geoff: My son Mike; my right hand man. He does most of the repairs mechanical and bodywork. Also if my driving isn't up to par, I can rely on him to put me straight. My daughter Kerry who not only supports the racing but also listens to me babble on about racing during the week at work. Finally my long suffering wife Sue, who supports me even though it very nearly gives her a heart attack every time I race.

Thanks very much to Geoff for taken the time to answer our questions and everyone in Pickup Truck Racing would like to say a big welcome to you and your team and wish you the best of luck.

Stuart Annible said; "we are delighted to host Geoff and his team this weekend racing in The Chocolate Pizza Company sponsored   JFF Motorsport hire truck. Geoff will also be racing with us at Donington and although the hire truck has already been booked for the majority of the remaining events, we still have 'arrive and drive' hires available for Thruxton (28th and 29th July), Snetterton (23 September) and also Pembrey (13th and 14th October). We have several interested drivers for these events but we always operate a 'first come, first served' basis so if any one would like to come and join the truck grid, please give me a call on 07734 531 441as I would be more than happy to discuss the options with you".

One of the many things Geoff has already shown us is his friendly and approachable manner so he is a long way to being a 'real' pickup truck driver! If you are coming to Brands Hatch, please come over and meet Geoff and the team. We're sure he would love to have a chat!
